Prelude

Howdy,

I would assume that most people who find themselves reading this blog know me personally. Just in case, I'll tell you a little about myself.
My name is Charles. I was born in Texas, and with few exceptions, I have always lived in the Lone Star State. From an early age, I have had a genuine curiosity towards life. My parents nurtured my curiosity by always answering my questions, and more importantly, never answering them as if I were a child who just wouldn't understand. My curiosity has grown into an insatiable desire to understand the how's, what's, and why's of the world.

Which leads me to the subject matter of this blog.

I was given an internship opportunity that was too wonderful to turn down. I am not contractually allowed to write/publish any details related to my employment without express consent from my employer; so don't worry about me filling these pages with any boring legal stories or work-related ramblings.

Lubbock to Zion to Elko to McMinnville to Seattle
My adventure begins two weeks from today.

The first part of the journey stretches over 2,000 miles and runs through 7 states. The thought of driving that whole way by myself was rather daunting. Luckily, my friend Corey is meeting me in Lubbock and will be riding shotgun as far as Portland. Along the way we will stop to hike above the colorful sandstone cliffs of Zion National Park, check out Bend Oregon, and spend a few days with close friends outside of Portland.

After training in Seattle, the road leads to my final destination: Glacier county, Montana.

I plan on spending my free time this summer fly-fishing, hiking, mountain biking, playing guitar, and reading; all while living in the shadow of Glacier National Park and the Continental Divide.

It is my intent to fill this space with photos and stories of places I see and people I meet while on the road. If you have an interest in nature, history, or photography, I believe that you will enjoy what I have to offer.

To all of my fellow travelers:

"May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
And the rains fall soft upon your fields,
And, until we meet again
May God hold you in the palm of His hand."

Hasta luego,
- Charles
